Ubuntu 11.04.. Part 2

Ok after a day of total frustration I decided to do a clean install instead of using the upgrade option from 10.10 to 11.04 to see if that would clear up any of the issues I was having. It didn't help. Below is my short list of issues:

  • Unity forces you to use everything in full screen mode to effectively use the new global menu system, effectively destroying any real multi-tasking.
  • No way to customize Unity for personal preferences
  • Duplicated entries in the Application Menu, very annoying and sloppy
  • Unity crashes, a lot! forcing a reboot to get things going again
  • Unity Launcher is as unpredictable as its stability, half the time I cant get an application to even launch
  • Cant configure a different mailto client. No other options can be set in settings, preferred applications
  • Very slow, Ubuntu 10.10 was blazing fast, Ubuntu 11.04 takes twice as long to load on boot and applications take too long to load
There are a ton of other issues I am having which are directly or indirectly tied to Unity Desktop, I honestly think Unity on 11.04 just feels like a beta application, its sloppy, slow, buggy and in my opinion simply a bad idea.
